ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Scheduling Details

• Shift hours: 3x12s, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
• Charting: EPIC experience required
• Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a six-week scheduling block
• Call Off Policy: Facility is allowed to call off one shift per two weeks
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday every 13-week contract
• First-Time Travelers Accepted: Yes
• Locals Accepted: Yes

Required License and Certifications

• ACLS / BLS / NIHSS
• Pending License Accepted: Yes, if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, an active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license is required

Required Clinical Skills

• Previous Neuro experience required, with experience in a large Level 1 or Level 2 facility
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring & emergency response, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and utilization of Rapid Response and Code teams
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Accessing/managing ports, arterial line management, PICC line management
• Administration of continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade, continuous IV sedation, and emergency medications with titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Neuro management: CVA/acute stroke management, external ventricular drain (EVD), hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, post-craniotomy, and post-neurosurgery management
• Respiratory skills: Assisting with management of BiPAP/CPAP, care of ventilated patients, and suctioning (ETT, NT), as well as ventilator management

Unit Details and Floating

• Patient Ratios: 1:2
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Stroke, neurosurgery, and neuro-specific diagnoses along with complex spine cases
• Special Procedures: EVDs and therapeutic thermoregulation
• Floating: May be required to float within skill set
