Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 26 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL license or confirmation of application process Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Level 1 trauma experience, previous travel experience, prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Med-Surg Acute setting. The unit has 54 beds, including 2 semi-private rooms. During the day shift, the nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5, and for nights, it is 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience-related conditions. Experience with titration of drips is required, specifically Heparin titrated drip based on PTT. Nurses will have a charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7. Charge nurses do not take on assignments unless necessary due to staffing. Nurse aid and patient care tech support are available on the unit. Ratios for aides are 1:9-10 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 at night. RNs may troubleshoot respiratory equipment but will not be required to manage COVID patients extensively. Telemetry monitoring is house-wide, and nurses do not need to read their own strips. The work schedule requires every other weekend and holiday shifts. Nurses may float to general unit floors as needed. There are specific orientation sessions provided for the unit, covering necessary systems and procedures.
