Description:
This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Med-Surg Acute setting.
The unit has a total of 54 beds, with semi-private accommodations.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift.
Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience conditions.
Nurses will be involved in titrating drips, specifically heparin based on PTT.
A charge nurse is present 24/7, but will not take assignments unless the unit is short-staffed and nurse ratios need to be maintained.
House supervisors are also available 24/7.
There are patient care technicians on the unit, with a staffing ratio of 1:9-10 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 during the night.
RNs are primarily responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment when needed.
Telemetry services are available, and nurses will not be required to read their own strips as there is a monitoring system in place.
The nursing shifts are 12 hours long, with weekend requirements set at every other weekend.
Holiday requirements also follow an every-other schedule.
There is no call or standby requirement for this position.
Travelers are expected to float with the rest of the staff and will only perform skills for which they are competent.
There is no specific scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted.
Orientation includes two days with an educator and preceptor for unit-specific training.
