Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have level 1 trauma experience. Must have previous travel experience. Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit. Heparin drip experience is required. Description: The unit has 54 beds, which includes two semi-private rooms. Day shift nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, while night ratios are 1:5-6. Patients typically diagnosed include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neurological conditions, with some medical overflow. The Charge Nurse is available 24/7 and does not take assignments unless necessary. A House Supervisor is also present around the clock. There are nurse aides/patient care techs on the unit, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 overnight. RNs may need to troubleshoot high flow equipment but do not regularly manage COVID patients. Telemetry is house-wide, and nurses are not required to interpret their own strips. RNs will be expected to float in rotation with other staff members. The schedule includes every other weekend and holiday shifts. Scrub color is not specified, but tattoos must be covered while on duty, and only ear piercings are allowed. Unit-specific orientation will be provided, along with training on the electronic charting system.
