Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Level 1 trauma experience - Previous travel experience (no first-time travelers) - Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit - Experience with heparin drip titration Description: The unit consists of 54 beds, including semi-private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumors, head injuries, and other neuroscience conditions. Nurses are required to titrate medication drips, particularly heparin based on PTT. A charge nurse and house supervisor are available on each shift, with charge nurses not taking patient assignments unless necessary. Patient care technicians are present on the unit, with varying ratios depending on the shift. Respiratory equipment is utilized on the unit, mainly for stable patients. Telemetry monitoring is available, and nurses are not required to read their own cardiac strips. Shifts are 12 hours long; weekend and holiday work is required every other cycle. Floating to other units may be necessary depending on staffing needs. There is no specific scrub color requirement, although tattoos must be covered while on duty, and only earrings are allowed as piercings. Orientation includes training specific to the unit and computer systems.
