The unit has a total of 20 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1. Support staff is available on both day and night shifts, including tech support and a unit secretary from 7 AM to 7 PM. Common equipment utilized includes IV pumps, telemetry, SCDs, continuous pulse oximeters, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, and bladder scanners. Documentation is managed through a meditech system. The nurse will be expected to work three 12-hour shifts per week with two weekends each month, totaling four shifts in a four-week schedule. In terms of patient experience, the nurse is expected to provide attentive and compassionate care to patients and family members. A bedside shift report process is used, and the nurse should be able to make personal connections with patients and include them and their family members in their care plan.
