Job Opportunity – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) RN – New Jersey

Start Date: September 28, 2026

Location: New Jersey

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 12-hour shifts with every other weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday); Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs; Patient ratios 1:2 in NICU and 1:3-4 in Special Care Nursery

Highlights:
  • Work in a 37-bed Level IV NICU within a 628-bed academic medical center, including a 21-bed NICU and 16-bed Special Care Nursery
  • Care for neonates 29-34 weeks and >34 weeks gestation requiring advanced respiratory support, high-frequency ventilation, and complex medical interventions
  • EPIC charting system; 4 hours of EPIC training plus additional orientation modules required
  • Flexibility to float within skillset to Newborn, Pediatrics, and PICU units for appropriate assignments
  • First-time travelers and local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • 13-week assignment with call-off provision of 1 shift per 2 weeks allowed by facility
Requirements:
  • Active New Jersey or Compact state nursing license required at time of submission
  • Minimum 2 years of current Level III NICU experience (Level IV experience preferred)
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; PALS preferred
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Competency in developmental care, respiratory management (bubble CPAP, HFNC, ventilator management), line management (A-line, UAC/UVC, central line care), IV starts and maintenance, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products
  • Experience with neonatal medications including anti-seizure, antibiotics/antivirals, vasopressors, steroids, surfactants, and insulin
  • Proficiency in GI/nutrition support including breastfeeding support, breast milk handling, and gavage feedings; oral/NG/NJ tube placement
  • Knowledge of NEC, sepsis workup, thermoregulation, phototherapy, and isolation precautions
  • Preferred skills include charge experience, jet vents, oscillators, ECMO, CritiCool body cooling, and care of neonates received via transport
  • Former employees must be separated from the health system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
