Weekend coverage required based on unit needs. Ratios: Typical ratios are 1:3 couplets or up to 6 patients. Unit accepts postpartum patients who do not require ICU level of care. High-risk patient population included. Training to float to Labor & Delivery with fetal monitoring experience is required. Care includes newborn patients who do not require NICU level of care. Responsibilities include administration of various drips and support for breastfeeding. Special procedures supported include magnesium drips, insulin drips, and PCA pumps. Daily tasks involve discharge teaching to parents and assessment of postpartum recovery. Charting completed in an electronic health record system. Interdisciplinary support is available from various healthcare professionals.
