This is a night shift position. The RN will provide care for postpartum patients who do not need ICU level care. The patient population includes high-risk patients and newborns who do not require NICU level care. Candidates must have experience with antepartum care and fetal monitoring. Typical patient ratios are 1:3 couplets, or up to 6 patients. The unit may include postpartum patients, substance-exposed newborns, and those needing phototherapy. The RN should provide breastfeeding support and discharge teaching to parents. Additional responsibilities include the administration of medications such as magnesium and insulin drips, as well as PCA and PCEA pump management. Skills required include newborn assessment, cord care, and the ability to teach circumcision care to parents. The RN must be comfortable with charting using an electronic system. Floating to other areas may be required based on facility needs. Weekend coverage may be needed based on unit requirements. The RN will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy and pharmacy services. Additional care procedures may include blood administration and maintaining IV lines. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and a commitment to patient education.
