The role will involve working with postpartum patients who do not require ICU level care. Candidates will provide care to a high-risk patient population, including antepartum patients with fetal monitoring experience and newborns not requiring NICU care. Responsibilities will include managing various medical treatments such as magnesium drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips. Breastfeeding support for new mothers and discharge teaching for parents will also be key aspects of this role. Nurses will be required to monitor patient ratios, typically involving three couplets or up to six patients. The unit will support interdisciplinary care, including services such as physical therapy and social services. Candidates must be comfortable with tasks such as administration of medications, assessment of newborns, and patient education. Call will be required based on unit needs, and weekend availability is also essential. The environment will support a variety of patient diagnoses and procedures, enhancing the quality of care delivered. Modules and facility-specific training will be mandatory upon assignment, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration within the team.
