The Registered Nurse focuses on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are priorities. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. Promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education is essential. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care is fundamental. The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. Focus on patient and family comforts, education, and satisfaction is critical. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care. Mentoring and precepting staff is part of the role. Assessment includes performing assessments and reassessments per policy or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstration of sound independent decision-making is required. Initiation, prioritization, and implementation of the plan of care are expectations. The RN collaborates with patient, family, and interdisciplinary services. Utilization of resources to support the needs of the organization and patient/family is necessary. Monitoring and documenting responses to clinical interventions is part of the evaluation process. Facilitation, coordination, provision, and evaluation of education specific to patient and family needs are crucial. Delegation of tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel is an essential duty. Functioning as a mentor/preceptor and facilitating teamwork is encouraged. Identifying and appropriately communicating opportunities for improvement is vital. Participation in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts is expected. Compliance with regulatory standards is necessary. Participation in the Practice Governance model is encouraged.
