The unit typically consists of 70 beds and a staffing level of around 120. Day shift staffing includes a charge nurse, resource nurses, admit nurses, and registered nurses. Night shift has a patient ratio of 1:3 for couplets. Common equipment includes Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Typical procedures performed include Mother/Baby care and lactation support. Additional procedures performed are phototherapy, blood sugar checks, and IV antibiotics. A positive attitude, flexibility, and teamwork are highly valued traits for candidates. Floating to other areas is rare but may occur as a resource nurse. Weekend shifts of 3-4 per schedule are required, with no on-call duty.
