Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care for a Medical Surgical unit population including orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, subdural hematoma, and neurological conditions. Perform colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, wound care, surgical drain management, and chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac).
Provide direct patient care for a Medical Surgical unit population including orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spine injuries, subdural hematoma, and neurological conditions
Manage heparin drips, PCA, blood product administration, and other IV therapies including central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral lines
Perform colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, wound care, surgical drain management, and chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac)
Monitor and manage cardiac dysrhythmias, oxygen protocol, and non-invasive airway management including tracheostomy management and oral suctioning
Document patient care accurately using Epic; utilize Pyxis for medication management and apply SBAR communication standards
Float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed; participate in storm, hurricane, or disaster response teams as required
Required Qualifications
Active RN license (NC or Compact)
Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical RN experience within the last 5 years
BLS certification (current)
Proficiency with Epic electronic health record documentation
Ability to manage patient ratios of 1:5–6
Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Preferred Experience / Skills
ACLS certification and proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation
Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and drip management
Background in CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, or spinal cord injury care
