Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to provide patient care on a Neurosurgical unit, focusing on patients with stroke, seizures, MS, back/head/spinal and other neurological diagnoses or neurosurgery procedures
- Maintain professional accountability for the provision of patient care for assigned patients, with a patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Evaluate the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers
- Coordinate patient care in conjunction with other departments, maintaining patient rights and confidentiality of patient information
- Float within scope as needed across the unit
- Willingness to take on occasional Charge Nurse responsibilities is required
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of inpatient acute care experience in Medical Surgical and/or Neurology/Neurosurgery
- Must be available the entire first week for orientation (night shift orients on day shift)
- FIT test will be required on site
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required November 1 – April 1
- EMR experience with EPIC preferred; EPIC is the system in use at this facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in a Neurosurgical or Neuro-focused inpatient unit
- Familiarity with care of stroke, seizure, and post-operative neurosurgery patients
- Prior Charge Nurse experience
