Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a combined adult and pediatric Med/Surg telemetry unit with 45 beds at a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Manage a diverse patient population including COPD, post-op, GI bleeds, OB/GYN surgeries, orthopedic, sepsis, altered mental status, chest pain rule-out, stroke, cellulitis, and ETOH withdrawal
- Titrate drips including Heparin; administer set-rate drips such as Protonix
- Operate and monitor respiratory therapy equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Work within a fast-paced environment with an average patient length of stay of approximately 3 days
- Adhere to weekend and holiday rotation requirements; every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule, with holidays worked into permanent staff rotation
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in California (or compact eligibility)
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in Medical Surgical nursing
- Telemetry experience required
- BLS certification required
- Ability to titrate Heparin drips
- Availability for call/standby as required by the unit
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Pediatric Med/Surg experience strongly preferred; travelers without pediatric experience will not be assigned pediatric patients
- PALS certification preferred
- Experience floating to telemetry or OB units (optional, not required)
- Familiarity with a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with rapid patient turnover
