Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Short Stay Unit managing high patient turnover with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
Care for patients presenting with stroke, trauma, cardiac conditions, and general medical diagnoses such as UTI, COPD, and cellulitis
Utilize Philips house-wide telemetry monitoring system; RNs are not required to independently read EKG strips
Manage BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment as needed per PRN or scheduled orders
Collaborate with Charge RN, House Supervisor, and Patient Care Technicians present on every shift
Float to other departments as needed, with travelers prioritized for floating assignments
Required Qualifications
Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Demonstrated general medical/surgical nursing experience
Ability to meet weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen
Preferred Experience / Skills
Prior experience in a short stay, observation, or high-turnover medical/surgical unit
Familiarity with stroke, cardiac, and trauma patient populations
Comfort with BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen in a non-ICU setting
