    Schedule / Job Type

    Contract | Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every other weekend required (Saturday & Sunday) | Rotating holidays

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide direct patient care on a 63-bed surgical acute unit, managing post-operative surgical patients, trauma cases, and overflow medical patients
    • Perform wound care and dressing changes, manage drains, nasogastric tubes, central lines, IV therapy, TPN, and pain management
    • Monitor patients on telemetry (Phillips monitors); bedside RNs are not required to read strips — central monitor techs are on staff
    • Manage patient inhalers and place patients on CPAP as needed; respiratory therapy manages nebulizers
    • Collaborate with charge nurses, house supervisors, and patient care technicians to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios
    • Float to units with equivalent level of care as needed; travelers are first to float
    Required Qualifications
    • Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
    • Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
    • Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Experience in post-operative patient care strongly preferred
    • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to recognize when to escalate or seek assistance
    • Excellent bedside manner and demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team
    • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system
