Travel Nurse RN - Medical-Surgical in Newburgh, IN

Perform and manage PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), stable drip administration (heparin, Lasix, Protonix), and epidural management. Provide post-operative care including post-Whipple patients (24–28 hours post-op), PEG/NG tube management, ostomy care, and neutropenic precautions.

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Day Shifts, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM | Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a complex Medical-Surgical and oncology patient population, including GI, GU, and general surgical patients
• Perform and manage PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), stable drip administration (heparin, Lasix, Protonix), and epidural management
• Provide post-operative care including post-Whipple patients (24–28 hours post-op), PEG/NG tube management, ostomy care, and neutropenic precautions
• Float within the same campus mid-shift as needed; cross-campus float (approximately 8–11 miles) may occur with a minimum of 2 hours notice
• Document accurately using EPIC (checkoff class required upon start)
• May be required to precept nursing students and new hires at this teaching facility

Required Qualifications

• Active, current Compact RN License required
• AHA BLS Certification required
• NIHSS Certification required
• Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical experience
• At least one prior travel assignment required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Recent EPIC charting experience required
• Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with oncology patient populations and complex post-surgical care
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with ability to manage high-acuity patients
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team environment
• Experience with neutropenic precautions and management of stable vasoactive or anticoagulation drips
