Description

Primary Responsibilities:

Inmate Healthcare Management:
Providing comprehensive healthcare services to 20-60 bedridden inmates, including:
Making rounds
Evaluating care needed and rendered
Developing care plans
Teaching healthcare principles
Administering medications, including narcotics
Rendering direct nursing care as needed
Performing specialized procedures, such as:

Intravenous (IV) therapy
Chemotherapy
Wound care
Oxygen therapy
Dialysis
Blood transfusions
Intubation and CPR
Tube feeding
Catheterization
Suctioning
Phlebotomy duties
Staff Management and Oversight:

Organizing and overseeing the 'code blue' team
Directing healthcare staff (e.g., hospital aides, licensed practical nurses) assigned to the area
Acting as the lead worker in charge during assigned shifts in the absence of the nurse 2 employee
Collaboration with Physicians:

Assisting physicians in providing diagnostic health evaluations to students
Administrative and Clerical Responsibilities:

Charting and recording all medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information
Completing required reports (e.g., incident reports, accident reports)
Documenting Medicaid information
Ordering supplies and equipment
Maintaining a constant and exact inventory of controlled drugs, medications, and equipment
Arranging outpatient clinic appointments
Arranging medical examinations by the school physician
Arranging new and refilled prescriptions ordered by physicians through the local pharmacy
Performing administrative tasks and serving as a liaison within the organization
Conducting and/or attending meetings
Additional Responsibilities:

Serving as an instructor on occasion
Serving as a member or leader of problem-solving teams or groups
