Description:
This role involves providing care to acute care patients with a variety of diagnoses such as infection, renal issues, cardiac conditions, pulmonary problems, oncology patients, orthopedic cases, bariatric management, pre-transplant assessment, observation, psychological considerations, long stays, and COVID-related care.
Nurses in this role can expect high patient turnover.
Patients may stay in the unit for hours to a few days based on bed availability.
Due to the diverse patient conditions received from the emergency department, nurses will work with various cases and will receive additional training to develop skills for managing different conditions.
Nurses are expected to learn challenging new skills throughout their tenure.
The unit utilizes special equipment including pumps, breathing assist devices, bladder scanners, lifts, EKG machines, and scales.
This position involves working collaboratively with interdisciplinary support teams such as IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
Nurses will manage a patient ratio of 1:4-5 depending on the shift.
Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.
No on-call duty is required for this position.
