Registered Nurse - Stroke Telemetry

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a high-acuity, fast-paced Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit in Elmira, New York. This 34-bed unit specializes in providing comprehensive care to acute stroke and complex telemetry patients.

The successful candidate will deliver evidence-based, protocol-driven care with a strong emphasis on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role requires an RN who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to optimizing patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform frequent and accurate neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
  • Monitor, interpret, and respond to changes in telemetry rhythms in real time.
  • Ensure strict compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient education, and comprehensive care plan development.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, adhering to Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) standards.
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapy services, and case management.
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow within a high-turnover environment.
  • Prioritize and implement patient safety initiatives, including falls prevention and maintaining skin integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret basic cardiac rhythm strips.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale certification.
  • Prior experience in a high-acuity medical-surgical or telemetry setting, preferably with a focus on stroke patients.
