Assesses and reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients. Applies the nursing process to cardiac monitoring and intervention, sedation, and pain management. Provides chest tube care and insertion, medication administration, and pre and post cardiac catheterization care. Handles TPN/PPN, KODA access, central lines, and COBRA. Administers specialized IV drips and titration, IV therapy, and transfusion therapy. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity while maintaining patient confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a patient advocate. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan. Interacts professionally with patients and families. Involves patients and families in the formation of individualized care plans. Reviews, revises, updates, and resolves care plans daily. Formulates teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Includes families in teaching, as appropriate.
