Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Cardiac knowledge preferred Description: ACLS required. Will accept 48-hour guarantee. Unit specifics include a total of 30 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1. Staffing consists of a unit clerk on days, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) day and night, nursing supervisors, and hospitalists. Type of equipment includes Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, GE telemetry, and Rover documentation system. Documentation system used is Meditech-HCA version. Medications are handled via WOW for all nurses, with the Pyxis ES dispensing system. Scheduling requires equivalent of every other weekend (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule). Floating policy includes other Med Surg areas such as general Med Surg, orthopedic, progressive care unit, and surgical with oncology. Patients are expected to experience bedside rounding and hourly rounding with a focus on the 5 P's. Nurses are responsible for reporting known needs to PCTs at the beginning and during shifts. Team members will check the glass board for department focus areas. Scrolling video kiosks are available for updates. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIH. Advanced skills needed include knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips. Procedures performed on the unit include chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs as needed. Dress code for RNs is navy scrub sets, while PCTs may wear ceil blue. Underneath uniforms, solid white, blue, grey, orange, or black t-shirts without graphics are allowed. No artificial nails or gel nail polish are permitted. Unit guidelines require documentation of telemetry application and acknowledgment of rhythm strips each shift. A NO PASS ZONE policy is in place for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms. Awards and recognition are shared on social media platforms, including stories and videos. Charge nurses have significant seniority, ensuring experienced leadership on both day and night shifts. Shared governance is practiced within the unit and facility.
