The unit accommodates 48 beds, aiming for patient ratios of 1:6 to 1:7. Staff includes 9 nurses, 5 patient care technicians, and 1 unit secretary. Typical equipment used includes EKG machines, bladder scanners, and ultra-light devices for IV insertion. Documentation is managed through a Meditech system. Scheduling typically requires 3 twelve-hour shifts, with a focus on every other weekend available. Floating may occur on an as-needed basis. The unit performs procedures such as wound care, I/O catheterizations, and tracheostomy care. The dress code consists of navy blue or white scrubs. Policies and guidelines emphasize frequent huddles to ensure team communication.
