Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med-Surg Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg experience License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Med-surg experience - Understanding of post-operative care Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Surgical Specialty Unit. The unit has 20 private beds with total patient care ratios of 4:1 and 5:1 with a patient care technician. Typically, there are 4-5 nurses and 1 technician on the floor. The unit utilizes various types of equipment including Alaris IV Pumps, CADD epidural, Alaris PCA, and telemetry equipment. The documentation system used is Medi Tech. Nurses are expected to work every third weekend and two Mondays and Fridays during a four-week scheduling period. On-call requirements apply, and nurses may float to similar medical-surgical and telemetry units. Patient experience is emphasized in this high-paced unit. Advanced skills required for this position include knowledge of ostomy management, NGT placement, Foley catheter management, central line management, wound management, and blood administration. This role also involves handling nutritional supplementation such as TPN and G/J tubes. The dress code includes royal blue tops and black or royal blue bottoms. This unit has received recognition as a Unit of Distinction for Med-Surg in 2021.
