Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00-19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: RN License required Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Med-surg experience Description: The position guarantees a minimum of 48 hours per week. The unit consists of 20 private beds with a patient ratio of 4:1 for total patient care, and 5:1 with a patient care technician. Unit staffing includes one technician and typically 4-5 nurses on the floor. Equipment utilized includes Alaris IV Pumps, CADD epidural pumps, Alaris PCA, Pyxis medication dispensing machines, telemetry, EKG machines, bladder scanners, wound vacs, capnostream machines, and SCD pumps. Documentation is managed through Meditech. Scheduling requires working every third weekend, as well as two Mondays and Fridays during a four-week period. Floating may be required to similar medical/surgical/telemetry units, including orthopedics and neurology. A high patient experience is expected in this fast-paced unit. Advanced skills in post-operative care are essential. Common procedures on the unit include ostomy management and irrigation, NGT placement and management, Foley catheter placement and maintenance, central line management, JP drains, wound management, IV starts, blood administration, and nutritional supplementation such as TPN and G/J tubes. The required dress code includes royal blue tops and black or royal blue bottoms. Recognition includes a designation as a Unit of Distinction for Medical-Surgical in 2021.
