The unit consists of 20 private beds with a patient ratio of 4:1 for total patient care, and 5:1 with a patient care technician. Unit staffing includes one technician and typically 4-5 nurses on the floor. Equipment utilized includes Alaris IV Pumps, CADD epidural pumps, Alaris PCA, Pyxis medication dispensing machines, telemetry, EKG machines, bladder scanners, wound vacs, capnostream machines, and SCD pumps. Documentation is managed through Meditech. Scheduling requires working every third weekend, as well as two Mondays and Fridays during a four-week period. Floating may be required to similar medical/surgical/telemetry units, including orthopedics and neurology. A high patient experience is expected in this fast-paced unit. Advanced skills in post-operative care are essential.
