Basic medical/surgical relevant and current experience.
Description:
Float pool between medical and surgical units.
Patient-to-nurse ratios of 6:1.
Total care provided; no patient care assistants.
No telemetry, only occasional strip reading required.
Transition to new electronic health record system scheduled.
Unit consists of 128 beds.
Patients may present with surgical services, including colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, and orthopedic surgeries.
Medical conditions may include diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney, and gastrointestinal conditions.
Charge nurse present on each shift who also takes an assignment.
Nursing assistants or patient care technicians are available, with varying ratios and duties.
Respiratory support is readily available; nurses do not handle equipment beyond troubleshooting.
Nurses do not read telemetry strips; telemonitoring is remote.
Staff assignment based on needs; self-scheduling is not available.
Every other weekend work is required, with no holiday obligations.
No call or standby requirement.
Floating required within medical and surgical areas.
Scrub color is navy, and staff must provide their own scrubs.
Cancellation policy: shifts may be canceled under specific conditions.
Charting system currently utilized is transitioning to a new platform.
BSN is not required.
Trauma level for the unit is 2.
Care setting is acute.
