Registered Nurse - Stroke Telemetry

Job Summary

Join a high-acuity, fast-paced 34-bed Medical-Surgical unit specializing in the care of acute stroke and complex telemetry patients in Elmira, New York. This unit is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, protocol-driven care with a strong emphasis on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

As a Registered Nurse on this unit, you will play a critical role in managing a high-turnover environment, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through vigilant monitoring and comprehensive care coordination. You will work within both primary and team nursing models to provide exceptional patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform frequent and comprehensive neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
  • Monitor and accurately interpret telemetry rhythms, responding promptly to changes in patient status.
  • Ensure strict compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient and family education, and individualized care plan development.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, adhering to Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, and case managers, to facilitate seamless patient care transitions and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Efficiently manage patient admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow within a dynamic environment.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous patient safety protocols, with a continuous focus on falls prevention and maintaining skin integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret basic cardiac rhythm strips.
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience in a high-acuity medical-surgical or telemetry setting, preferably with stroke patient populations.
