The RN provides care to patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy. Essential Functions include: Performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. Implementing procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completing initial assessments upon patient admission and developing appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. Implementing plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifying plans of care based upon continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicating with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offering constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Conferring with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. Identifying own learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies. Department Specific Job Functions include: Receiving patient bedside shift reports from an RN at the beginning of each shift. Ensuring the inclusion of patient input, visual validation of a safe patient room environment, and updating patient communication boards. Delegating patient care tasks/responsibilities to assigned team members and validating completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift. Completing and documenting basic RN patient care activities such as assessments, interpretation of vital signs, and ensuring completion of physician orders. Performing admission/discharge of patients and hourly rounding. Meeting documentation standards for each assigned patient. Providing patient medications utilizing the 5 Rights: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, Right Time. Maintaining patient safety as the highest priority level, ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, and isolation precautions. Maintaining a positive attitude that promotes a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment. Responding promptly to patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests. Using critical thinking to evaluate overall patient condition and acting on changes in patient status. Effectively communicating within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and effective patient care coordination. Managing time effectively to enable a quick admission/discharge process for patients.
