They assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. They provide care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources. Care is provided within the philosophy of the institution. Key Functions: They perform all responsibilities and duties specific to the scope of service. They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. They maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. This documentation assures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. They complete an initial assessment upon patient admission. They develop an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards. The plan of care is based on patient and family needs. They implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. They modify the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. They take responsibility for patient and employee safety. This includes reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. They communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. They offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. They confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. They identify their own learning needs. They take the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. They fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.
