It is fast-paced and focuses on caring for general medical/surgical patients. The unit has 15 private beds. Patients are ready for discharge from the emergency room but have not been assigned to a specific unit yet. The responsibilities include performing initial admissions and caring for patients until they are transferred to their new unit. Equipment utilized includes Epic for charting, Zebra phones for communication, Omnicell for medications, and Aleris IV pumps. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 during days and 6:1 at night. Shifts require every other weekend and holiday. Floating to other medical/surgical units may be necessary.
