Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Job Summary
This is an exciting 13-week travel contract opportunity for a dedicated Medical Surgical Registered Nurse in Hilo, Hawaii. The role is based within a 77-bed Medical Unit at an acute care facility, providing comprehensive care to a diverse adult patient population.
The successful candidate will be responsible for general medical unit duties, managing patient care with a typical night shift ratio of 1:8. This position requires adaptability and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic environment, with potential for floating to other units such as Laulima and Cardiovascular.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Unit, performing general nursing duties.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and monitor patient conditions.
- Manage and operate medical equipment including wound vacs and chest tubes.
- Document patient information accurately using the Meditech EMR system and Pyxis.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
- Float to other units, including Laulima Unit and Cardiovascular Unit, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical Surgical setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Proof of flu vaccination or an approved facility medical/religious exemption prior to contract start.

Shift Details
- Shift Type: Night shift.
- Hours: Scheduled 36 hours per week following the first full week of orientation.
- Days: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts. Requires flexibility to work various shift lengths and days; no guarantee of hours or shift preference.

Licensing Requirements
- Active Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license required by the start of the assignment. Candidates not currently in possession of an active Hawaii license must apply upon acceptance of an offer.
