The unit is busy, where rehabilitation and support for patients are the highest priority. Common diagnoses include traumas such as spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and orthopedic injuries from trauma. Acute care surgical diagnosis includes hernia repair, small bowel obstructions, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy. Travelers should have experience in a fast-paced medical surgical environment, preferably with Level I Trauma center experience, though several years at a Level II Trauma center is acceptable. Patient ratios are 1:4 during the day and 1:5 at night. LNA ratios to patients are 1:12.
