Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical (Night Shift)

Schedule: 3x12 Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (36 Hours/Week) | Every Weekend Required

Position Overview
Clarinda Regional Health Center has an immediate, urgent need for an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to provide consistent night-shift and weekend coverage. The Med-Surg RN coordinates and delivers high-quality direct patient care, managing post-operative recovery, acute medical conditions, and complex patient populations. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong clinical decision-making, and adapts seamlessly to facility workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care: Perform comprehensive physical assessments, administer medications, manage IV therapies, and monitor vital signs for a varied Med-Surg patient load.
Care Planning & Execution: Develop, implement, and adjust individualized nursing care plans based on ongoing patient evaluation and multidisciplinary team inputs.
Documentation & EHR: Maintain precise, timely documentation of clinical interventions, treatment responses, and patient statuses in accordance with hospital standards.
Interdisciplinary Handoffs: Conduct accurate shift-change handoffs and collaborate closely with attending physicians, hospitalists, and support staff to optimize patient outcomes.
Patient & Family Education: Provide patient education regarding care plans, wound management, disease processes, and discharge instructions.
Position Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements
RN License: Active, unencumbered Iowa RN License or active Compact / Multi-State Nursing License.
BLS Certification: Active Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Schedule Commitment: Availability to work 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM including every weekend for consistent coverage.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: 1–2 years of recent acute care Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
Advanced Certifications: Active ACLS certification.
Proficiency: Familiarity with rural community health systems and electronic health record (EHR) platforms.
