Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty - Medical Surgical Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Experience with Central Lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes - EPIC experience preferred - Experience in a level I trauma center considered without travel experience Description: This is a Medical Surgical unit with a total of 56 beds, featuring both private and semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health and addictions. Registered Nurses are not required to titrate drips. Common drips administered include Heparin and Lasix. A charge RN is available on each shift, and they do not take an assignment. Patient Care Technicians assist with vital signs, accuchecks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a typical ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory equipment used includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, along with inhalers and suctioning. Telemetry monitoring is managed remotely, with RNs able to view strips from a device or computer. Shifts are scheduled as three 12-hour shifts with a requirement for weekend work every other weekend. Floating may be required to other acute care general medicine areas as needed. Professional scrubs in any color are permitted, with guidelines regarding visible tattoos and piercings. Unit-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts.
