Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 15 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Understanding of a drug-free work environment and ability to produce a negative drug screen Description: The unit features a total of 29 beds. Typical patient census ranges from 22 to 26, with a target of 25. The unit comprises both private and semi-private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights. Common diagnoses include GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, DVT, and pulmonary embolism, primarily focused on medical diagnoses. Patients may be admitted back after surgical procedures. Registered Nurses are required to titrate only heparin drips. Charge Nurse coverage is available 24/7, with the goal for the Charge Nurse to be free from assignments. A Crisis RN and an administrative supervisor are also available as resources 24/7. Patient care technicians provide 24-hour coverage with a ratio of 1:10. The unit does not have ventilators; however, it accommodates patients with oxygen requirements up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP as needed. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely, with primary equipment being Phillips. There is a unit clerk available for 24-hour support. Shifts are scheduled as 12 hours, with report times at 7 AM and 7 PM. Weekend shifts occur every other weekend, with day shifts on Saturday and Sunday and night shifts on Friday and Saturday. Holidays are rotated among staff. There are no call or standby requirements. Travel Nurses are the first to float as necessary to other similar units. Registered Nurses are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize available resources if they are unsuccessful. An inpatient phlebotomy team is utilized for blood draws.
