Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical-Surgical Acute Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of hospital experience preferred License: Active Illinois RN license required Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS preferred for Charge RN position Must-Have: Experience in titrating drips, specifically Heparin Description: This unit has 31 beds, including both private and semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. Surgical staffing ratios may increase to 1:6 during the day and 1:7 at night. Common diagnoses include general medicine patients with a variety of conditions. Registered nurses are required to titrate Heparin drips. There is a Charge Nurse on duty 24/7, who may also have patient assignments at times. A house supervisor is present around the clock. Patient care technicians are available, with ratios of 3-4 on day shift and 2-3 on night shift, depending on census. Patients may require up to 6L of nasal cannula oxygen, and stable BiPAP/CPAP may be used as needed. Telemetry monitoring is provided remotely, and registered nurses are not required to read their own strips. Shifts are 12 hours, with reports at the beginning and end of each shift. Registered nurses work every other weekend and are expected to participate in holiday rotations. Floating to other units may be required as needed. Registered nurses are expected to attempt IV starts, utilizing inpatient phlebotomy teams for blood draws when unsuccessful. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available onsite 24/7. This position requires adherence to a drug-free workplace policy.
