Description:
The unit consists of 56 beds, both private and semi-private.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00-23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00-07:30.
Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health and addictions.
The use of titratable drips is not required, but common drips may include Heparin and Lasix.
A charge nurse is available on each shift, and this nurse does not take an assignment.
Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, blood sugar checks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living.
The technician-to-patient ratio is 1:8-10.
Respiratory equipment used includes Bipap and Cpap for sleep apnea.
Telemetry is monitored remotely, with the ability for nurses to view strips on a pack or computer.
Shifts are scheduled as three 12-hour shifts from 07:00 to 19:30.
Every other weekend and variable holiday requirements apply.
Floating to other acute care areas may be necessary.
Professional scrubs of any color are required, with no visible tattoos or piercings except ears.
Unit-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts.
