Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience in post-operative care, critical thinking skills, good bedside manner, team player Description: The nurse will work in a Medical Surgical unit with a patient bed capacity of 63. Nurse to patient ratios are typically 4-5 patients per RN on days and 5-6 patients per RN on nights. Ratios may increase to 1:6 on days and 1:7 on nights if necessary. Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS). Candidates must have experience in post-operative care of patients and possess strong critical thinking skills. The role requires the ability to ask for assistance when needed and maintain a good bedside manner. The registered nurses are not required to titrate drips, with the exception of Heparin. Charge nurses are present on each shift and do not take patient assignments. A house supervisor is available 24/7. Patient care technicians assist with various tasks, including vital signs monitoring, activities of daily living, and patient ambulation. Respiratory equipment such as CPAP and high flow is managed by respiratory therapy, while registered nurses focus on inhalers and can place patients on CPAP. Telemetry monitoring is part of the unit, but registered nurses do not read their own strips as this is managed by monitor technologists. The work schedule includes rotating weekends and holidays. Traveling nurses are the first to float and will float to units with the same level of experience. Scrubs of any color are permitted.
