The ideal nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, but can go up to 1:7. Common diagnoses include NSTEMI, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and acute kidney injury. The role does not require titrating drips. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present on the unit. Patient care technicians are available, with a ratio of 1:8. Telemetry is available, with monitoring techs scheduled to interpret strips. Nurses are expected to sign off on strips throughout their shift. Scheduling includes shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM. Weekend and holiday requirements are typically every other. There is a low likelihood of call or standby requirements. Floating to ICU or emergency room may occur based on the candidate's experience level. Any color of scrubs is acceptable, with a requirement for closed-toe shoes and good hygiene. Department-specific orientation will be provided.
