Strong MedSurg background due to a variety of patients
Description:
Unit has 32 beds but currently accommodates 20 due to staffing.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are no more than 5.
This unit accommodates RNs and LPNs.
Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic cases, detox patients, and post-operative care.
Experience working with pediatric patients is required.
Med/Surg may take any patients except laboring mothers and those needing titration of cardiac or insulin drips.
RNs are not required to titrate drips.
There are respiratory therapists available to assist with CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow; all hours.
Shifts are 12 hours, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM.
Managers may offer block scheduling based on traveler preferences.
Weekend work is required every other weekend.
Holiday shifts rotate with regular staff.
No standby or on-call requirement.
Floating to assist other units is required.
Scrubs can be any color except camouflage or orange.
Unit-specific orientation will review policies and procedures.
Training on the unit typically lasts 3-5 days.
