Job Title: Risk Management Specialist Profession: RN Specialty: Quality Coordination Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 08:00 - 16:30 Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 3 years in nursing or a combination of nursing and claims/risk management experience License: Current RN license (or compact license) Certifications: Claims Management and/or Risk Management certification preferred Must-Have: - Critical thinking skills - Decisive judgment - Ability to work with minimal supervision - Capability to work in a stressful environment Description: The Risk Management Specialist will monitor, develop, and implement a Risk Management Program. This position reports to the Director of Risk Management. A Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is preferred. Graduation from a School of Nursing is preferred. The role requires three years of experience as an RN or a combination of three years of nursing, claims, or risk management experience. The specialist will design and coordinate a comprehensive risk management program. They will act as a resource for current knowledge and appropriate methodology for effective risk management. This position involves reviewing, coordinating, and developing department risk management policies and procedures. The specialist will maintain communication with administration, staff, and corporate representatives for feedback. They will investigate, analyze, document, and recommend actions on potentially compensable events, claims, and litigation. The role includes implementing claim handling actions authorized by the Risk Management Committee and Administration. Identifying risk reduction opportunities and implementing risk reduction projects will be part of the responsibilities. The specialist will assess staff education needs related to risk management. They will provide education through presentations and development of educational materials. Cooperation with administration and corporate representatives to comply with regulatory requirements is necessary. The position involves participation in formal and ad hoc committees and work teams. Development and maintenance of systems for managing information relevant to risk management is required. Effective communication with external organizations, such as insurance representatives and attorneys, will be expected.
