Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Stroke Stepdown
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment on a 64-bed Medical Surgical Stroke Stepdown unit (7th Floor) at a facility in Utica, New York. This specialized unit provides comprehensive care to adult patients requiring close monitoring and intervention.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, caring for a diverse adult patient population with common diagnoses including stroke, altered mental status, renal conditions, dialysis, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and general medical-surgical issues. This role requires a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult patients on a Medical Surgical Stroke Stepdown unit.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans for individuals with complex medical conditions, including stroke and other neurological, cardiac, and pulmonary diagnoses.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and monitor patient responses in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
- Utilize and manage specialized equipment such as IV pumps, N/G tubes, and feeding tubes.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records (EMR) documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Float to other units as required by facility needs.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Medical Surgical (MS) nursing with specific experience in a Stroke Stepdown unit.
- Prior travel nursing experience is required.
- Experience caring for adult patient populations.

- Hours: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM
- Days per week: 3 (36 hours per week)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: August 31, 2026
- End Date: November 28, 2026
- Block scheduling is not guaranteed.
- Floating is required.
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue.
Licensing Requirements
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York (NY).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (can be obtained prior to start).
