The unit primarily serves adult patients presenting with a range of complex diagnoses, including acute stroke, altered mental status, renal conditions, dialysis, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and general medical-surgical issues. Nurses on this unit are integral to patient recovery, managing intricate care plans and utilizing advanced clinical skills.

This position involves delivering comprehensive nursing care, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and adapting to a dynamic healthcare environment where floating to other units may be required based on patient census and facility needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct, high-quality nursing care to adult patients on a Medical Surgical Stroke Stepdown unit.
• Manage and monitor patients with complex medical conditions, including stroke, altered mental status, renal disease, COPD, CHF, and various general medical-surgical diagnoses.
• Operate and manage specialized medical equipment such as IV pumps, nasogastric (N/G) tubes, and feeding tubes.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, administer medications, and implement physician orders accurately and efficiently.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Document all patient care activities, observations, and outcomes meticulously within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
• Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a safe working environment.
• Float to other units as needed to support overall hospital operations and patient care requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical Surgical (MS) unit with specific Stroke Stepdown experience.
• Demonstrated prior travel nursing experience.
• Proficiency with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
