Must-Have:
Candidate must have at least 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care experience.
Candidate must have at least 1 year of Med Surg experience at a large hospital with over 450 beds.
Description:
The position requires nursing care in a medical-surgical unit.
The unit serves a diverse patient population with various diagnoses, including chronic illnesses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease.
Nurses will manage gastrointestinal issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, and inflammatory bowel diseases.
Infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and c-diff will also be managed.
Care will extend to patients with neurological issues, including stroke, dementia, and traumatic brain injuries.
Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse will be part of the patient care spectrum.
Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries.
General job duties include assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
Skill requirements include proficiency in utilizing electronic health records and various medical devices.
The unit utilizes Epic electronic health records, pyxis machines, and telemetry monitoring.
Patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6.
Nurses will float to other medical units as needed.
The dress code is Caribbean Blue scrubs.
The training and orientation program consists of general hospital orientation followed by nursing orientation, including Epic classes.
