Must-Have:
Candidate must have at least 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary experience.
Candidate must have at least 1 year of MedSurg experience in a large hospital (450+ beds).
Description:
The unit cares for a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses, including chronic illnesses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease.
The team manages GI issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, and inflammatory bowel diseases.
Infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, and C-diff are also treated.
Patients with neurological issues like stroke, dementia, and traumatic brain injuries are cared for.
Mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are managed as well.
Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries.
General job duties include assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
Utilization of electronic health records, IV therapy management, and the operation of IV pumps and wound vacs are required.
Skills needed include the management of heparin and insulin drips, chest tubes, and feeding tubes.
Equipment utilized includes Epic electronic records, pyxis machines, and telemetry monitoring.
Patient ratios are 1:5-6, with 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week period.
The dress code requires Caribbean Blue scrubs.
Floating to other medical units may occur as needed.
Supplemental staff must complete a nursing orientation program.
