The nurse will provide care for a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses. Responsibilities include managing chronic illnesses such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease. The nurse will also care for patients with GI issues such as pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel diseases. Infection management, including pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, and UTIs, is part of the role. The position involves caring for patients with neurological issues, including stroke and traumatic brain injuries. Mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety may also be part of the patient population. The nurse will assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. General medical-surgical nursing care tasks will be required. Skills required include assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication. Utilization of electronic health records and various medical equipment is essential. Equipment utilized includes Epic electronic records, IV pumps, feeding tubes, and telemetry monitoring. Candidate must be willing to float to other medical units as needed. Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6. The position requires working 12-hour shifts with a minimum of 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Dress code for the unit is Caribbean Blue scrubs. Completing a training and orientation program is mandatory for supplemental staff. Candidates must hold an active BLS certification and meet the experience requirements.
