The RN provides care to patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution. Responsibilities include performing duties specific to the scope of service and implementing procedures related to the area of practice. The RN maintains accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for the healthcare team. Initial assessments are completed upon patient admission, and appropriate plans of care are developed based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The plan of care is modified based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communication with colleagues is direct and private when necessary to resolve issues. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers, and collaboration with colleagues is encouraged to expand knowledge. The RN identifies personal learning needs and takes initiative to find appropriate solutions. All departmental competencies must be fulfilled. Specific functions include receiving patient bedside shift report and ensuring patient input is included. The RN ensures patient room safety and updates patient communication boards during shift changes.
