Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience required License: Active state RN license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Candidates must work every other weekend. Candidates must have experience in telemetry and emergency response. Candidates must have experience with genitourinary and renal cases. Candidates must have IV therapy and phlebotomy skills. Candidates must possess knowledge of medication administration, particularly heparin. Candidates must have experience in respiratory case skills and management. Candidates must understand isolation precautions and wound care. Cerner experience is required. Description: The role includes working in a medical surgical unit with a focus on urology and nephrology. The average daily census is approximately 23 patients. This is a 25-bed unit with a variety of diagnoses, including urology and nephrology illness and surgical procedures. Common conditions treated include kidney stones, enlarged prostates, and various cancers, as well as complex bladder surgeries. The unit also manages end-stage kidney disease and medical surgical overflow cases. Travel nurse duties may include charge responsibilities as needed. Floating to other medical surgical units is required. Candidates will work with interdisciplinary support from various therapeutic teams, including IV therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Candidates will be expected to complete tasks related to continuous bladder irrigation and postoperative care for kidney transplant patients. Management of central and peripheral IV lines, urinary catheters, and other specialized medical equipment is integral to the role. Candidates must adapt to a busy environment, frequently discharging and re-admitting patients. The unit handles a wide range of diagnoses and requires adaptability to meet the needs of the patients and facility. The role demands strong clinical skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively with patients and team members.
