Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Float Pool

Job Summary

This dynamic Registered Nurse position offers the opportunity to float across various medical and surgical units within an acute care hospital in Hilo, Hawaii. The role involves providing comprehensive patient care to a diverse adult population, adapting to different unit environments and patient acuities.

Nurses will be integral to patient care teams on units such as Medical (77 beds, typical 1:8 night ratio), Surgical Acute (Laulima, 18 beds, typical 1:6 ratio), and occasionally Cardiovascular (15 beds, typical 1:4 ratio). This position is ideal for an experienced and adaptable RN seeking variety and challenge in their practice within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, high-quality nursing care to medical and surgical patients across multiple units.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer medications, perform treatments, and monitor patient responses according to established protocols.
  • Operate and manage various medical equipment, including wound vacs and chest tubes.
  • Document patient information accurately and timely using the Meditech EMR system.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatments, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing unit assignments and patient needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care Registered Nurse experience.
  • Ability to float between various medical and surgical units.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC.
  • Previous experience in a float pool or multi-specialty unit setting.

  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM

Licensing Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
